Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made

Gows Manufacturing Engineering Services undertakes manufacturing for Sellafield Ltd with respect to parts for the M2 Flask.

I undertook a targeted and proportionate Manufacturing Inspection in line with the IAEA Transport Guidance.

I sampled: Gows Management System; use of Supply Chain; LTQRs, FATs and concessions; training records; and calibration. I also conducted a walkdown of the facility including stores.

In all aspects I was satisfied that Gows arrangements met an adequate standard. No advice or guidance was given.

Conclusion

Gows is a small manufacturing facility and I undertook a targeted and proportionate Manufacturing Inspection in line with the IAEA Transport Guidance.

  1. I reviewed the Gows Management System document and sampled 3 areas: internal audits; non-conformances; and roles/role profiles. I judged that the management system met an adequate standard for these 3 areas sampled.
  2. I reviewed the supply chain used by Gows and was satisfied that there is adequate oversight of these organisations and that their supplied work is of an adequate standard.
  3. I undertook a walkdown of Gows facility including stores, and was satisfied that the facility is kept to an adequate standard and that items are stored in adequate environmental conditions.
  4. I reviewed LTQRs, FATs and concessions and was satisfied that adequate records are kept and that adequate procedures are deployed.
  5. I reviewed calibration certificates for two items and was satisfied that adequate calibration had been undertaken.

Overall, I was satisfied that Gows had deployed an adequate management system within their manufacturing facility.
