Aim of inspection
This inspection sampled a number of maintenance and project activities being carried out on site to assess compliance with the Heysham 2’s own site arrangements and compliance against aspects of LC28 (Examination, inspection, maintenance and testing) and LC26 (Control and supervision of operations). It included a selection of Electrical / C&I / Mechanical based tasks and looked at workplace standards.

Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
We spoke to a variety of EDF staff at all levels in the site organisation and a number of contractors about activities being carried out or planned . We observed a wide variety of maintenance and project activities across a range of disciplines and teams. We saw the site’s maintenance fundamentals in action, including:-
- Start of Shift Briefing and daily safety message
- Setting to Work Briefings
- Take 5 or point of work risk assessments
- Procedural use and adherence (PU&A)
- Work packs , including work order cards, permits and contractor method statements
- Field Supervision
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment (PUWER)
- Work area standards and FME
- Quality Standards
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Conclusion
No significant issues were raised and so awarded Green ratings against LC28 and LC26 compliance. However, a series of observations and pieces of advice were given to the site, to which they have provided constructive responses. These will be actioned as needed to enhance their arrangements.
