Background

Hinkley Point B is situated near Bridgwater, Somerset on the South coast of England.

Hinkley Point B power station was built between 1967 and 1975 and started generating electricity on 5 February 1976. Operating at its current reduced level of around 70% of full output.

The station has now ceased generation and has commenced defuelling.

Notice of application to dismantle and decommission Hinkley Point B

An application and Environmental Statement has been submitted by EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) in accordance with the Nuclear Reactors (Environmental Impact Assessment for Decommissioning) Regulations 1999 (herein referred as EIADR). This is submitted with the intention that it provides relevant information to ONR to enable the granting of consent to carry out the dismantling and decommissioning of the Hinkley Point B Nuclear Power Station (Nuclear Site Licence No. 62C).
